About UsTopCities was founded in 1998 when the internet was still young and chaotic. The vision was to create a massive community of web sites. Within a couple of years, over a million sites had been activated.
It wasn't long though, before people started griping about the backend control panel. The system was too simple, and offered only some of the most basic features.The backend was upgraded many times through the years to match the demands of the users.
In 2009, TopCities finally decided that it was time to revamp the whole thing and just go all out in open-source application hosting. Why re-invent the wheel when there's a wealth of awesome software already available? Besides, we've played with enough of these apps to know them like the back of our hands: Joomla, WordPress, phpBB, osCommerce, Magento Commerce, Coppermine Gallery, SugarCRM, VTiger, PHProjekt, Achievo, dotProject, Moodle, Elgg, Dolphin.
For those interested, the original TopCities was based around this strange fella named Gramps. Well, he's still around, and it looks like he's aged backwards!
